No, the CIA has not set up hidden cameras in my room, and thank God that I’m not on Big Brother, because having total strangers watch my every move 24?7 would be terrifying. But it might as well be, because as Christians the world is watching us all the time.
It’s funny how being the “Christian” in your friend group instantly makes you the shoulder to cry on, or the wise one, or the one who’s expected to pray for everyone when they have problems.
This last week has shown me just how seriously the world takes our declarations of our faith. Even if they don’t acknowledge it publicly, they know who we are. And they ARE watching us and our lives, even when we don’t notice it.
I’ve seen this happen twice this week, where friends of mine have asked me to pray for them for various reasons.
I remember one of the first times this happened. It was with a friend who called me when she had an emergency that she knew she couldn’t handle. She knew about my relationship with God, but it’s not like i spent every second of our conversations preaching to her. I was a little surprised when she called me, but i realized that people really DO know who we are.
People can choose to speak to anyone else about their problems, but they choose Christian friends because they see the power of God at work in our lives. It has nothing to do with how funny we are, or how good we make them feel. People with problems want solutions, and the solutions come from God. Being asked to pray for someone is the greatest honor, because it shows that the person has seen the evidence of God’s power in your life. At that time, we are the only face of Christ those people will see.
What you do DOES matter. What you say on twitter or bbm may seem dumb to someone now, but believe me, when they have a problem, they’re going to be looking at you.. I really don’t want to make anyone feel like they need to become this entirely different person. This message is as much for me as it is for anyone else, because I write about what God is convicting me about… It’s just a reminder of the fact that people see our lives as a reflection of our faith, and that our lives have an impact on more people than we think…
Happy Friday :)
